LONDON AND WEST KENT RAILWAY - 1853-4

The London and West Kent company proposed to build a direct line from London to Maidstone.   It would have provided a more direct route between Maidstone and London than the existing South Eastern line via Paddock Wood, Tonbridge and Redhill

The line would deviate from the main line from London Bridge to Croydon and Brighton near Sydenham.  It would then continue through Bromley and Farnborough to Green Street Green from where it would parallel the turnpike road to a tunnel through the North Downs at about the location of the eventual main line tunnel under Polehill. Once out of the tunnel it would proceed east via West Malling to Maidstone.

Some aspects of the plans seem to have been drawn from those in the West Kent Junction proposal of 1853, so may have been derived from it.
